Bugei Remni Information

Introduction

Kiai Yamabushi Ryu Bugei Remni is a politics-free association made up of like minded individuals and groups who enjoy practising and teaching martial arts. We aim to provide support, education, training and advancement for martial art clubs, students and teachers. Nothing more, and nothing less. We welcome all styles and flavours of this the most exciting of all the arts, and we do so in a spirit of mutual respect and understanding. It is our hope that this literature will encourage you to get in touch, or visit one of our existing clubs with a view to becoming a part of the Kiai Yamabushi Ryu Bugei Remni family.

First Steps

Kiai Yamabushi Ryu was brought into being in 1992 by a group of senior teachers who wanted to break out of the political arena that is current in martial arts. It began as a Jiu Jutsu style in its own right, within a parent organisation and eventually, as momentum gathered it became an independent body. Kiai Yamabushi Ryu is an umbrella for a Jiu Jutsu style and an Aiki Jiujutsu style. These arts have independent syllabuses, variations of which and are taught by many of existing instructors. Now, seven years later, we have a healthy number of clubs, in three countries and an active program of courses and gradings. We are a truly international and empowering organisation. Although we have always welcomed other styles and traditions into our ranks in an ad hoc fashion, we are now in a position to other stylists from all martial arts a place to feel at home. Although still in embryonic form, the Bugei Remni is that place.

The Bugei Remni

Bugei Remni, loosely translated, means martial arts association. We have formed the Bugei Remni to cater for those who want to be a part of Kiai Yamabushi Ryu but who do not want to practice and teach Jiu Jutsu, or indeed our particular flavour of Jiu Jutsu. Members of the Bugei Remni are subject to much less stringent guidelines than those teaching Kiai Yamabushi Ryu Jiu Jutsu or Kiai Yamabushi Ryu Aiki Jutsu, and maintain a greater degree of autonomy. It is our aim to include, not exclude, and as a result we provide services, support and opportunities for instructors, clubs and students. Specific benefits of membership include:

Membership Services and Costs

Kiai Yamabushi Ryu Bugei Remni by its very nature places more store on commitment and quality than cost. However in order to provide the quality of service and support that we pride ourselves on, certain costs are inevitable. We do however work hard to keep them as low as possible.

Gradings

Members of the Bugei Remni will be able to conduct gradings on their club to within two grades of their own grade. This can include dan (black belt) grades, although another senior grade from the school will be required to be present. Higher dan grades may apply to the grading panel for a grading in their own art (given the usual time limits). For this they must provide criteria and a syllabus, which will be assessed and agreed before the grading can take place. If there is no one deemed qualified to assess the grading on the existing panel, an associate member of the school with the appropriate expertise will conduct the grading. Alternatively, those wishing to progress beyond their current level, may also train for a dan grade in Kiai Yamabushi Ryu Jiu-Jutsu or Aiki Jiu-Jutsu.
In general there are two dan gradings a year, held in one of our centres, Manchester or London.

Courses

We have a varied program of courses. There are at least two residential courses each year and a number of day courses. In general there is a meeting of the school every two months, either for a grading or a course. In this last year we have had a full program of courses.

Next years program is already filling up, with courses to Ireland and Portugal already on the plan.

Location

Kiai Yamabushi Ryu Bugei Remni has main centres in London, Manchester and Portugal, as well as clubs in Surrey, Northampton, Bedfordshire, Oxfordshire, and Ireland. There are opportunities for training all over the country, and abroad and as you will see from our extensive course list, we make the most of those opportunities to meet and train with friends and associates.
